Asylum Seekers

Did you know Jesus was a refugee? Asylum issues have become big news in recent years. We need to see beyond the negative stereotypes and myths portrayed in many sections of the press. Most people who are seeking a safe place to live are coming from war torn countries or brutal regimes. Asylum seekers from

 

 

They have experienced, or witnessed, persecution and violence in their home countries. They may have seen family members killed and will have left loved ones behind. They may be traumatised by their experiences. Once here they are often isolated - because of language barriers, cultural differences, and having no family or friends near.

 

These feelings may be made worse by prejudice that is common against asylum seekers in this country. What would Jesus' experiences be if He  was an asylum seeker in London today?

  • Thank God that London is one of the most diverse cities in the world and for the opportunities to worship and witness in a multicultural society.
  • That people who are asylum seekers in London would find the city a safe and welcoming place.
  • Ask God to help you examine your own views and assumptions about asylum seekers.
  • That the church in London would be welcoming, offering support to all those who come to the city.
  • That asylum seekers would find healing and forgiveness in Jesus.
  • Pray against prejudice and for people to see past media stereotypes and lies.
