Praying for London

Youth

Where young people are standing up for Jesus we are seeing fantastic things happening. In schools where young people are praying for the staff and their fellow students we are seeing Christians filled with the Holy Spirit and non-Christians getting saved. Christian Unions are growing so that staff and parents know that something is going on.

In youth clubs young people are leading worship and writing new songs and as their friends come along they are becoming Christians in an infectious atmosphere acceptance and challenge.

But it’s not universal. So many Christian youth feel weak, alone and powerless especially in their everyday school situations. Many lack boldness and conviction and just go with the crowd appearing to be no different from their classmates.

And among their classmates are young people who are looking to things like drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography, violence, crime and the occult to meet their spiritual hunger.

Prayer points.

  • For young people in our churches - that they will be on fire for Jesus wherever they go
  • For our churches - that they will effectively disciple young people through example, attitude and instruction, Deuteronomy 6:6-7
  • For youth work in churches – that we will not be afraid to proclaim the gospel, Romans 1:16
  • For an end to a decline in the number of young people in the church
  • For Christian students in schools and colleges - that they will be courageous, standing up for Jesus and starting Christian Unions as they stand together, 2 Timothy 1:7
  • That schools will be transformed for good as students and staff pray for their schools
  • That school communities will be changed by Christians who proclaim the gospel both in Word and Spirit and in actions; standing for love, truth and justice, Jeremiah 20:18-22
  • For young people who are seeking gratification through substance abuse, sex, crime or the occult – that they can be set free
  • For Christian young people as they encounter these temptations – that they will have the courage to resist and the compassion to live a life of purity before everyone, 1 Timothy 4:12-13
  • For Christian youth workers working in open youth clubs or in detached roles – God’s power will be displayed in their lives and they will see many young people saved

In this week I have come across more and more young people who are self harming. It is breaking God's heart. Pray that they would accept help from adults and not just there friends. The friends cannot cope with the situation however hard they try.
