Statement about imminent Flooding in London

The following word is drawn from a number of people who meet together on a regular basis to pray, share revelation and seek the Lord. It does seem that we have entered a new season for the UK with increasing pressure coming on the capital. This does not mean that our best days are not ahead of us - they most definitely are, but the most challenging days are the ones ahead. Judgement is a challenging word - but we have to mature in our thinking to realise that judgment is not the opposite of mercy: mercy can come through judgment. Judgment is against institutional and oppressive 'empires'. Those who align themselves to that suffer - as also sadly do the innocent at those times. The church can limit the suffering in those situations where it becomes free from a spirit of self-preservation.

Weigh what follows and I am grateful that whatever a perspective is reached that we are in this together for a future filled with the presence of the Lord.

LONDON AND UK
The following is a summary of prophetic insights received over recent years concerning London and the United Kingdom, and the statement below results from a series of meetings held between the Autumn of 2005 and mid February 2006, of a prophetic “roundtable” (names listed below).

At a meeting on 16th February a consensus was reached - which leaves us with a responsibility to declare what is being discerned - and so feel it right to release it into the public domain. The intention in releasing the statement below, is to enable both those in relevant authorities, and the church, to prepare for events which we believe will take place.............

“We see the need to warn and to prepare for major flooding from the Thames - covering significant areas of the London flood plain - inclusive of the financial centre of the city. It is foreseen that this will be of sufficient magnitude to cause damage and destruction to property - necessitating the relocation of people from the area. There would be an attendant risk of injury and even loss of life, in flooding of this nature. Consequential to this would be disruption to residential, governmental and commercial life in the affected areas. The urgency we feel in the release of this is communication is due to our belief that the above events are imminent”.

For the Church:

In the light of this, we see a responsibility to urgently alert the church of the nation to prepare, both in prayer and in practical measures.

Spiritually - as a nation - we face the consequences of the frequent embracing of unrighteousness, both in our actions and legislature, and therefore the reaping of what we have sown, particularly from more recent years.

As “great darkness” covered a former generation (see Isaiah 60:1-3), it provided the context for light and glory to be intensified over God’s people. What we now see coming is a time of opportunity and challenge to the Church of our nation - to be light in darkness and to declare and demonstrate the gospel of Jesus.

In terms of intercession, we need to pray for mercy, protection and preservation of life as well as “damage limitation” over the region and the nation. The issue will be for the Kingdom of God to have maximum advantage.

We sense also that it will be a “wake up” call, spiritually, to both church and nation. Many in the nation will be seeking answers as to why this has happened. God’s people need to be prepared both to stand, themselves, in a time of trauma and also to bring comfort and understanding to others. We need to pray for the church to rise to this opportunity.

We see the further need to pray for government (local and national) - for the receiving of this information as being both trustworthy and timely, and for wisdom in their responses to what it could require to be put in place.

On a practical level, we encourage the church to begin to take a lead from the US churches in the New Orleans disaster and to consider preparing practical facilities, such as refuge, accommodation and care, for those who may be displaced from the flood areas.

Interesting!!!! In response to Geoff, the reason Ninevah was not judged was because it did what God told them to do through Jonah, which was to repent. If they had not done so and there had been no judgement, then Jonah would have been a false prophet. So where does that leave this prophecy? Well, we should count ourselves as included in the warning and pray for forgiveness and repent on behalf of the nation. If there is anyone out there who believes that we are a righteous nation in God's sight at the moment, flood or no flood, then they need to wake up and look at what is happening around them. The signs are there. He who has ears let him hear!!!!

From The Times on 23 July 2007: With almost 90,000 gallons heading down the River Thames every of second, the Environment Agency admitted that there was nothing they could do to slow down the torrent. "We have issued a flood warning for the whole of the River Thames.”

We are praying...

If the prophecy turns out to be wrong, surely the person giving it is not a prophet.

Deut 18 22 "When R636 a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; R637 you shall not be afraid of him.
if it does not happen, there is plenty of harm done. The people listened to a lie.

we should always be prepared to weigh prophecy up, God can send warnings to a church and to a nation..I didnt take these prophecys as seriously as I ought last year, but now seeing the extent to the damage in places along the severn and thames and knowing now that the environmental agencies are talking about possible flooding along the thames goes to show it is possible...we are not infallible I think we don't believe it can happen to us until it happens, I bet Pompeii didn't think it would be destroyed by mount Vesuvius.
I am keeping an open mind if it dosen't happen now thier is a possibility it may occur especially if the weather patterns are changing so dramatically, God is outside of time....one thing we can do is pray for London and for the people affected in other parts of the country and think of practical ways we can help....

Christians are right to intercede and pray disaster be averted and also to do what they can in practical terms to assist others suffering without pointing the finger.

Churches that have listened to both prophecies of disaster and scientific research and warnings have responded with plans and preparations so if such events do occur, they can bring aid and comfort to victims.

Even when they are suffering themselves in the midst of trouble, they trust God and His promise of restoration and hope such as God spoke of through Jeremiah, who both forwarned and experienced the fall of Jerusalem....but also had hope of a return & restoration for the future and invested resources (at God`s instructions) in that in faith.

We have seen reports on the News and heard Gordon Brown commending the work of churches and volunteers assisting in the recent unparalleled and widespread floods. In a nation now known for it`s secular stance and criticism of christians and churches, this reminds me of Mordecai and the King who came one sleepless night to a sudden realisation of the good this ridiculed Jew had done him and his country and commended him for it. This paved the way for a salvation of the Jews from Genocide through the King`s Queen and Mordecai`s Niece, Esther.

I believe Christians must stand firm in love and faith and commitment to the Gospel in both Word and Deed and hold out hope and help in troubled times.

With regard to prophecies that do NOT come true: for example those who have said that the forewarnings of floods and encouragement of Christians to prepare their hearts and minds and lives in the community for such circumstances are mistaken and said,"there will be NO floods, NO disasters from 2005 to 2010."...obviously they heard wrongly, or responded wrongly to what was said.

I suppose it is pillow prophecy lulling believers into complacency that they do not need to speak or act or think how to prepare, how they might save lives and souls.

After all God warned Pharoah in a dream, though he was an Egyptian and gave Joseph, a jewish slave, the interpretation and inspiration to plan and prepare for famine...hence many lives across the entire region, both Jew and Gentile, were saved.

God warned in the New Testament of disasters and as a result christians gathered Aid ready for the event and again, saved many lives.

The builder of the Thames Barrier had a job convincing the people of the day of it`s usefulness, but the risk was considered great enough to build it, even then. No-one doubts it now. It has saved London many times.

If committed scientists and Believers are both warning of a future breach of this Barrier and we have seen Flood Warnings all along the Thames and floods across Britain and in places along the Thames already...we would be wise to do what can both physically and spiritually for what is far from an impossibility.

Not to do so would surely be irresponsible and foolish before both God and man.

I truly believe that what has been lost over the years by the church is the necessity to pray according to :

2 Chronicles 7 -14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

when a warning such as the london flood was given and not only by one prophetic voice but by many who are well seasoned, there was cause for alarm, and at first it seemed that flooding was imminent, but, the Lord reminded many of us of the demise of Jonah.

Jonah was in a place of death, no way out, and yet from the depths of the belly of the Whale he cried out, even when all hope seemed to have gone, and to all intents and purposes death was imminent, yet, the Father saved Jonah as he was spewed up onto the land and was enabled to bring that word in season that brought life into Ninevah.

We had the sign of the Whale in the Thames, and also the prophetic words about the floods, and I believe that it was a sign to us all that the Lord was drawing our attention to the disaster that was on the way.

So we had a dilema, there were men and women of God very well respected giving out the word about the flooding, and we know that when they speak it often comes to pass, so what should we do? I believe that the Father is abounding in grace and mercy, that if we came before him in prayer and intercession that he would respond to the cry from the heart of the nations, this is what We did, I sent out the prophetic word and rallied people to pray as did many other ministries. many joined us, as we cried out with one voice and one accord that the flood would be averted. I believe that the Father heard our cry.

All is not lost in the face of disaster. Jonah if you remember had prophesied that judgement was coming but the people repented, and turned from their ways. But, Jonah now had a dilema, because he had prophesied death, and when it was averted he didnt see the grace and the mercy of God,and missed the greatest miracle of all.

We too can do that, sometimes it can be because of unbelief, because for whatever reason we are unable to accept what the prophets are saying so when disaster is averted its difficult for us to become excited about it if we didnt receive that word in the first place to be of the Lord.

We have a duty to test every word through prayer and scripture, and we know that the prophetic should also activate within those receiving that word a response. Our response to this word was to call forth rivers of the Holy Spirit to come and flood London as we stood in the gap together as a body and cried out before Him.

I am pleased to see as I minister in London that much in happening in London, that a stirring has begun, and that many have an expectation like never before. I have no doubt that a time of refreshing has begun to sweep into fellowships house church etc and many are being challenged and touched by the hand of the Lord. We have christians in the corridors of parliament, and a voice is indeed being raised once again in our nation for Christian values, Prepare ye the way of the Lord. Blessings Heather.
